Better things

 photo fluff_zps73f4bc7a.jpg
A recent conversation with an old acquaintance really got under my skin. Let me explain:

The one thing I know is true, if you work in a restaurant over the age of 22 people judge the shit out of you. Pardon my french, but really… that's just the way it is.

People always feel the need to ask me, "So what's next? Are you in school? Do you have any goals? Do you still live at home with your parents?" Okay maybe not the last one but I feel like they are thinking that.

It's true, I serve and I bartend for a living. And guess what? It's great money. I also get to interact with people, I problem solve, I multi task, I sell sell sell, I love the people I work with (for the most part) and it provides me with the schedule to take vacations and travel to amazing places (Hopefully Vegas in February!)

So this conversation? I'm getting worked up just thinking about it.

Her-"I'm surprised to see you are still serving."
Me- "Oh really? why is that?"
Her- "I just figured you would be doing better things by now."
Me- "Well this is an amazing place to be serving"
Her- "Ehhh it seems pretty casual."

So a double insult. That's more than I usually get so I just had to walk away… I couldn't say anything to that.

The thing is… has she even seen my blog? I mean, c'mon. I do do better things all the time! My days are spent on Pinterest and taking ultimate selfies. I have solo dance parties and I eat a lot of waffles. My life is pretty great. Maybe I don't have a crazy amazing job or a glamorous lifestyle, but I do stuff. I see stuff.

And the thing is… I don't really care to explain myself. The people that know me (You, included) know that I do things. I am currently building my brand as a blogger, trying to get my name out there and working as a server at night. Sorry if that doesn't impress you. Want to know what I have to say about that?

I don't currrrrrrr.

People have done that to me before, and I have my master's degree. There's someone that always asks where I am working or what I'm doing every 2-3 months. It would be okay if they are catching up, but that's basically the start and end of the convo.

I honestly don't see what it matters. People that I went to school with already knew I wasn't going to use it (that person included). I told him I worked for myself and that shut him up. HAHA!

Back when I was 23 or 24, a couple of us hanging out where talking about school. They said that I should go back to school and get a bachelor's degree. They "assumed" where I went to college was a 2 year degree program. I was like no... I have two 4 year degrees.

People suck!

As hard as it is, don't let her get to you. I served for 3 years after I graduated college and I LOVED IT! It was great money, I had so much fun interacting with different people and being on my feet running around all day. I too, often got the whole "oh wow, you got your degree and you ... serve?" Usually when people make comments like that they are insecure about their own lives and feel the need to judge others to make themselves feel better. I used to feel bad, but then I started to feel bad for THEM instead. It must suck being so miserable in their own life that they have to waste their time judging ours :) You're fantastic and it only matters if YOU know it! Keep it up girl :)

First of all, I love that you work there because then I have a good meet up spot for dinner in spokompton when I'm there in march and bonus! I get to see you again! Second, people always judge... I say let 'em. I'm so over the drama that those people try to bestow upon us. Haters gonna hate!

Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!!! I knoooooooow this feeling all too well. You know, I was dumped for not having a 4 yr degree! I hate it, I can't stand it. But I'm trying not to let it bother me. I am doing something I loooooooooove and my life is FUN! I get to meet people, travel, create art, I love it! So those people can go be sad about their own lives, like Amanda ^^^ said, and we can continue on the paths we have chosen- because we love them!

I love you and I love that about you!

Ok first of all.. Screw that person.
Second...I admire you for doing what you do! I am trying to do the same!... I nanny full time, which some people say to me isn't a REAL job. Uh seriously? And then I'm trying to build my own brand and fill my time with things I love and am proud of!
Third.. You go girl! You rock those dance moves and eat those waffles and do whatever you want!

Xoxo

While you are out there doing things and seeing things, you're looking pretty darn fabulous! You only get one shot at living your life, live it the way you want to. :D

You shouldn't care! You have an amazing attitude about it. They obviously just don't know. I think you're awesome. And so are waffles.

Love this, lady! It is so hard for me right now even being only 21 when people ask why I only work part time at a library. because right now I don't NEED to have a full time job and I am enjoying this season of my life. You can tell people question the fact that I am not in college and think I'm useless/not doing anything important. Oh well. I enjoy where I work and there will hopefully be better things for me in the future wherever that may lead me. If you enjoy your life and your job, who cares what your job is?!
