Ghosts of Boyfriends Past: Johnson

When I first moved to Austin I was nineteen. Young, naive and the world at my finger tips.
Also, I didn't know a single soul.

So I frequented coffee shops, small bistros and shops to try to scope out... well, prospective friends.

It seemed to really work in my favor! I quickly was in with cute coffee shop manager. SCORE.

Meet Johnson:

Photobucket

Ow Ow!

I thought it would be okay to use his picture and real name because
A. it was over 5 years ago and
B. We immediately stopped talking after this experience.
Here we go:

Johnson was my first real friend.
My first crush in Austin.
He showed me around the city, took me to some great restaurants, clubs, shows....
We even went shopping together!

Not to mention he was a model/actor/musician.
Deadly combo.

He was everything I thought I wanted.
Tall. Hilarious. Could get me into clubs.
I mean, talk about opportunities!

One night Johnson calls me and says he's on his way.
"We are going to get my sweetie a new outfit and I'm takin' you out!"

Girls. I was his sweetie.
Sweetie= me.

I found the perfect dress and shoes (he took care of the bill)
and then we hit 6th street.
This is heaven to a 19 year old wild child.
Actually, this is heaven to anyone who likes to have a good time!

After a few clubs and a few cocktails I was in full on Crush Mode.
You know. He's super sweet, he bought me clothes and drinks.
So I'm going to kiss him.
That's the only option.

So, in the basement of a dark bar called Rogue. I decided to lean in for a quick kiss.
"What are you doing?!" he look terrified.

I looked around looking for his girlfriend or some sort of explanation as to why he was not a will participant in this kiss.

"Sweetie, I thought you knew. I'm gay."

Mortified.
The only rational decision I could make was to run out of the club crying like my mom just told me I couldn't have ice cream.

Johnson, the model/actor/musician.
The coffee shop manager.
The shopping fanatic.

He was kind enough to take me home.
Needless to say, I was too embarrassed to go to his coffee shop again.
Or to ever be the first to lean in for a kiss.

Guys,  I don't know how you do it.
I guess you don't run into that many lesbians.

Looking back, I wish I would have just laughed it off.
Talk about dramatic.
But when you're 19 and a guy doesn't like you (whether it's because he likes boys or not)
it's kind of the end of the world.

Please tell me I'm not the only one this has ever happened to!

Love this series! I went back and read the old posts and can definitely relate. Oh the stories that could be told but, alas, the boyfriend probably wouldn't want to hear any of them!
